Looking for a U-Haul Alternative in Troy, IL?
If you've priced out a U-Haul truck or trailer and started wondering whether there's a better option, there is. KD Trailer Rentals is a locally owned trailer rental company based in Troy, IL at 407 E US Highway 40. We rent utility, dump, enclosed, and car hauler trailers by the day or week — no mileage fees, no reservation surprises, and no corporate runaround.
What's Actually Different About Renting Local
The U-Haul Experience
With U-Haul you're renting a moving truck or a small cargo trailer on their terms — mileage limits, fuel requirements, drop-off restrictions, and a reservation system that doesn't always honor availability when you show up.
The KD Trailer Rentals Experience
With KD Trailer Rentals you're renting from a local owner and towing expert who is reachable by phone. You pick up what you need, you use it, you bring it back. That's it.
We also offer trailer types that U-Haul doesn't. U-Haul rents moving trucks and small utility trailers. We rent dump trailers for hauling debris and landscaping materials, car hauler tilt trailers for transporting vehicles, equipment trailers for moving heavy machinery, and enclosed trailers in two sizes for moves and secure cargo transport.
No Mileage Fees
This is the one that catches people off guard with U-Haul. You see a rate online, book the truck, and then the mileage charges add up fast — especially for anything beyond a local move. Our trailer rentals are flat daily rates. You pay for the days you have it. Drive it wherever you need to go and bring it back. No odometer. No per-mile charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you rent moving trucks like U-Haul?
A: No. We rent trailers only — you need a vehicle capable of towing. If you need a tow vehicle in addition to a trailer, a moving truck rental may make more sense for your situation. But if you already have a truck or SUV that can tow, our trailer rates will almost always come out cheaper.
Q: Is there a mileage limit on your trailers?
A: No. Our rates are flat daily rates with no mileage restrictions. You pay for the days you have the trailer, not how far you drive it.
Q: Can I use an enclosed trailer instead of renting a moving truck?
A: Yes and for most local moves it is the better option. Our 22ft enclosed trailer holds up to 7,500 lbs, includes straps, and rents for $180 per day Monday through Thursday or $200 on weekends — significantly less than most moving truck rentals, with no mileage fees. For a full comparison, read our trailer vs. moving truck guide.
Q: What do I need to rent a trailer?
A: Valid driver's license, valid auto insurance on your towing vehicle, a valid credit card for the deposit, and a completed rental agreement. Your towing vehicle must be in good working condition and capable of towing the trailer you select.
Q: How far in advance do I need to book?
A: We recommend booking as soon as you know your dates, especially for weekend rentals. You can request a trailer through the form on this page or call us directly at 618-414-9857.
